A canopy forms and the leaves above,
eat up sunshine,
for the forest floor,
is damp and dark.
And oft I’ve wondered,
why we block out the brightness,
of nature’s little ways,
so our hearts remain,
cold and devoid,
through sunnier days.

The instinct to grow,
to flourish and flow,
pulls up the twines you’ll see.
Clinging and clasping close enough,
strangulating life out of the unassuming tree.
Then while the dripping downpour of cheerfulness falls astray,
parasitic thoughts feed on us,
like termites through wooden veins,
one by one,
all good is undone.

O for the gleaming hopeful glow,
trim the roof,
that keeps you aloof,
let compassion show.

lets keep that for tomorrow.
